Christmas is indeed a time for many things. It is time well spent with our families and our friends, a time for celebration, a time for passing down holiday traditions (as well as creating new ones); and, of course, with the end of year approaching, it is a time of reflection and resolution. Moreover, with the abundance of festivities that our communities offer over the holidays, it’s a time to try new things, and collect memories with your loved ones. Here are a few of our favourite, fun-filled, family-oriented activities that are happening in and around the Ottawa region this winter:

One of the newest and most talked about festivity, that just so happens to be new to our City this year, is Wesley Clover Parks’ Gift of Lights. Since its kick-off on November 25th (ongoing until January 1st) the 2 kilometre drive-thru light display “features a 100+ foot light tunnel at the exit, and over 30 static and animated light displays”. Perfect for a night out on the town with your family and friends; and what’s more is that all ticket proceeds go in support of the Sens Foundation – talk about a gift of giving!

Moreover, and keeping with the theme of lights, Parliament Hill has officially been lit up for its 32nd annual Christmas Lights Across Canada celebration. Running through until Christmas Day, the Hill will be putting on a “magical lightscapes multimedia show” mirrored onto their historic heritage buildings for all to see every night from 5:30PM until 11:00PM. And while you’re downtown, why not take a walk around the area or a skate on the Rideau Canal – admire the beautiful array of Christmas lights that decorate the City streets and stunning architecture.

The festivities continue with an evening trip to Upper Canada Village for their Alight at Night Festival which takes place between the 2nd of December and the 7th of January. Onlookers and enthusiasts of the near 1-million Christmas light spectacle have coined it “a true winter wonderland for the whole family”. So go ahead, travel back in time this Christmas to a world of simplistic awe. You won’t want to miss it.

In all that you do to commemorate the holidays, we hope that you and your family enjoy a safe and memorable one, and that you continue to enjoy all the excitement that is the celebration of Christmas.
